The Hunterstown Generating Station is a neighbor of our Amblebrook Community. The plant, owned by LS Power, generates power for the regional electric grid. The plant burns natural gas and generates power using a “combined cycle” that has gas turbines and a steam turbine. One of our community members has arranged with the plant owner for a group tour of the plant, to gain insight on how it works. The tour on Thursday June 4 will start with a briefing at the clubhouse at 9:30, after which we will carpool over to the plant for the on-site tour. The tour should be concluded by noon.
The size of the tour group is limited to 18 people. If there is more demand, we will work to set up a second tour in the future.
The tour is free, and you can sign up on the portal. As the day approaches, you’ll receive more information. (For example, there are dress requirements.) IMPORTANT UPDATE The Plant Manager at Hunterstown Station has just informed me that (regretfully), the June 4 tour needs to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The tour will not take place on Thursday June 4 as originally scheduled. We apologize for this disruption and will keep you updated with regard to rescheduling. The Plant Manager's use of "unforeseen circumstances" usually means that there is a sudden maintenance demand to keep the plant operating properly, which is typically an "all hands on deck" situation. Under such circumstances the tour is an unnecessary distraction. Point of Contact: Paul Damerell - [email protected]
