Dave Scott and John Fair invite interested residents to view a 35 minute video mini lecture by Peter Gabel followed by short discussion. Peter Gabel is a thirty plus year professor of constitutional law and academic expert on the history of the ever evolving matters of constitutional law. In this short video, Professor Gabel unpacks the recent history and use of the concept “originalism” … a term being used often in recent time and more recently today especially as the Supreme Court continues to debate issues of constitutional law relating to individual rights and rights to privacy. As a spoiler alert, we share that Peter Gabel comes from a left leaning moderate political perspective whose life, much like many of ours was shape by the civil rights movements of the 1960s. His academic approach to the subject is balanced however and to have the opportunity to hear his insights can assist greatly to collectively understand the challenges of our political divide in the nation. Hope to see you the music room May 18 at 9 AM
